Political Knowledge: She could take a few fair guesses what with meetings that've happened in the pub and inn, but prefers to hum loudly while polishing glasses so she can honestly say she knows nothing for certain if questioned.

Skills: Pulls a perfect pint of Guinness. Has been brushing up her defensive magic for the last half decade; is now fairly good for someone not working with law enforcement, but has no experience with Unforgivables. Mods, how would you feel about someone having taught her how to cast a Patronus? I don't want her to be a part of the Order, but she isn't afraid of Dementors in the books so much as exasperated by them, and she's friendly with quite a few of the school staff, and some Order members? I defer to your wisdom on that.

Politics: Rosmerta's political allegiances have changed since first leaving school. With a Muggleborn father and uncle - both of whom she loves dearly - purism has never been an attitude Ros particularly subscribed to; though this isn't to say she's always considered herself to be particularly liberal. She had thought the Statute of Secrecy to be more of a protective than prejudiced measure; while Muggles are plenty clever, they simply aren't capable of magic and don't have a great track record of interacting well with those who are. After finding herself at a party invaded by a terrorist group intent on killing Muggleborns and those who supported them, including Hamish, Rosmerta's political stance has swung hard to the Justinian party. She may not make her support of the Order of the Phoenix known publicly, but the way she sees it they exist to put an end to this Death Eating business, and if that means that from time to time they do things that stray outside the boundaries of the law too... well, one has to crush a few grapes to make wine, no?

Past War Involvement: Rosmerta was injured at Bloody Valentine's, where her husband was killed by a Death Eater.

DETAILS
20 Word Sentence Describing Your Character: Though she often wishes for peace, Rosmerta recognizes that making the world a better place can sometimes requires a fight.
Personal History: Rosmerta grew up beside the tiny town of Hougham, with two older siblings and four cats. Her father was a gardener, her mother a mediwitch who met when he had two fingers bitten off by a fanged geranium. Together they survived the Muggle war in Shropshire with Paul's family, but once the bombings were over and surrenders signed, they took the opportunity to buy a small parcel of highly discounted, mainly devastated land in southeast Kent. Damona took a sabbatical from work, extending beyond her maternity leave to help set up the home, with Paul spending weekends creatively charming the property to create very secret gardens for his children. And so, Rosmerta remembers most of her childhood to be spent outdoors with her sister, brother, and cousins, playing Dragons and Tamers amidst the hedgerows, or Let's Go To Hogwarts in castles built of tree branches and tarpaulins.

When she did join her siblings in Hufflepuff, Ros got along well with her class and housemates, making friends easily and participating in Charms club and swapping Chocolate Frog cards. While her grades weren't the greatest, she worked hard enough to pass most of her OWLs, and the NEWT classes she took. For a while she had thought to follow in her father's footsteps and garden, but chose to take a year to herself first, letting a little flat in Hogsmeade and getting a job at the local pub. It was then that she became reacquainted with Hamish Diggory, who had only grown more impossibly handsome in the two years since he had left school. Rosmerta put him off a few times, convinced that he wasn't the sort of fella she wanted, that he was seeing plenty of other girls, but when she finally gave him a chance, Hamish turned out to oddly crazed with airplanes and the harmonica, significantly and delightfully nerdier than she had originally anticipated.

It took fourteen months of steady dating to prompt them to elope on a whim, and while her mother cried, Rosmerta couldn't help but be happy. She didn't want anything fussy, or really for anything to change beyond moving from her tiny flat into Ham's larger one. Neither of them were keen on starting a family so early; Hamish was focused on his career as an Obliviator, Rosmerta enjoyed her job at the pub. They hatched salamanders and hosted dinner parties, grew gardens and played parlor games, and while the occasional squabble over minutia was unavoidable, for the most part they were simply a fun couple who still enjoyed any good excuse to spend time together, or with friends.

Valentine's Day was one such evening; a party filled with old sweethearts and blind dates that should have been pleasant for everyone. Instead, Rosmerta found herself victim of an attack of the so-called Death Eaters, and Hamish... Hamish had stood in front of her, and then when he collapsed, she couldn't rouse him. For the next two weeks in St. Mungo's, regrowing the muscles in her right thigh, it was all she could see when she closed her eyes. Potions distorted the scene, intermixing the screams of Ros' fellow party goers with the sound of his voice right beside her ear, singing 'You've Charmed My Heart Away From Me,' while they danced in the kitchen the night after coming home from their elopement.

The death of someone you love so dearly isn't something that you 'get over'. Over half a decade of distance made the scars smooth over some, and Rosmerta began to have more happy days again. She studied defensive magic more thoroughly, she joined the Friends of the DMLE to support their efforts of keeping other people safe, other husbands and wives from suffering the way she was. She worked, she hatched more salamanders, and eventually Rosmerta was promoted to manager of the pub staff. It was then that she moved, letting go of Ham's flat that had become her own, trying to give herself a bit more distance from her memories of him, space to let other things into her life. Since then Rosmerta has been more of her old self, joking with customers, buying too many shoes, baking pies and starting a small garden on a little plot at the edge of Hogsmeade. She keeps a weather eye out for anything suspicious, though sometimes she also turns a blind eye for Professor Dumbledore, whom she considers trustworthy - possibly more so than the Ministry even, these days.

I don't believe in resolutions - if you're going to do something, just do it, don't make it a declarative that people hold you accountable for - but I do believe that other people like to make them, and that weight loss and drinking/smoking less always seem to rise to the top of the lists. I'm here to tell you that's bollocks. Do I want to see you all sitting at the counter, drinking yourself stupid and stuffing your gob with steak and kidney pies every single night? Of course not! But, anyone who says there's something the matter with having a pint with your friends on the weekend, or stopping in for a good warm bowl of soup when you're too tired to cook... well, they're flat out wrong, so don't you all forsake me because you think I'm going to make you fat and stupid, deal?

	SABRINA 'BEAN' JONES (?) older sister, girlfriend Free-sprited and creative though not often the most practical of persons until pushed to be, Rosmerta rather adores her older sister. They've each supported the other through the loss of a husband/fiance, and while Rosmerta sometimes worries more for Bean, with her job as a hitwitch, she's hoping that being inside the Ministry will keep her sister safe.
	AERON JONES older brother I'm very flexible about Aeron, I don't mind if he's married or single or divorced or who he supports politically, etc. Preferably not a secret DE? Their parents are currently living abroad somewhere to avoid their father being targeted as a Muggleborn.
	ANNE JONES cousin, girlfriend Rosmerta is big on family and considers her relationship with her cousins to be fairly close. She considers Anne to be someone good to banter with, very much appreciating her dry sense of humor and candid attitude.

Due to the larger gap in age and the absence of her parents overseas, Ros occasionally finds herself thinking of Jack as a substitute father figure; though one with whom she can be much more open, and tease freely.

While she doesn't have any hopes that they'll ever be more than friends, she does feel as though they're rather incontrovertibly attached nowadays, and wouldn't give up her secret gay husband in exchange for a straight one.
